Presidential Meeting in Brno
This year´s Spring General Meeting of the Federation of Catholic
Family Associations in Europe took place in the Czech
city Brno on 11 to 12 March. At the same weekend the city hosted also
a symposium of the Central European Catholic Congress with the central
subject of demography under the motto "How do we live tomorrow ?"
After a cordial welcome of the "landlord" Josef Zeman who introduced
the Czech family centres a resolution to the subject of "bioethics",
as well as a press statement relating to the EU enlargement were adopted.
An important issue of the agenda were the elections to the European Parliament.
A broad consent was achieved concerning the endeavour of FAFCE to request
the national members of the EU-Parliament to take over certain obligations
relating to family policy.
A
reception by the family bishop of the Czech Episcopal Conference, His
Excellency Vojtech Cikrle, gave the FAFCE members an interesting insight
into the history and the present day situation of various working fields
of the Brno diocese.
During the following symposium Johannes Fenz, President of FAFCE, chaired
a workshop to the subject "Family policy in Europe" that had
a very good attendance and offered a superior discussion platform. The
materially profound debates were enriched by contributions of a member
of the Czech Parliament, an officer of the Ministry of Labour and Social
Issues and a number of politicians. The workshop paper (pdf) of the FAFCE
President.
